Flag Burning Should Be Allowed as a Citizens First Amendment Right “Nobody should be allowed to burn the American flag - if they do, there must be consequences - perhaps loss of citizenship or year in jail.” Tweeted by Donald Trump, President of the United States. Natural born U.S. citizens may not have their citizenship revoked against their will, but may choose to renounce their citizenship on their own. If that wasn't the case and the loss of citizenship was easily triggered, where would anyone get deported to? While the American flag is an important national symbol for many citizens, it should be allowed to be burned as a citizen’s first amendment right because of owned property, freedom of speech, and to burn it for the freedom it stands for. To begin with, flag burning should be protected because of owned property. As long as no one’s life or property is being threatened, burning the flag should not be illegal. As stated in source E “If it is a flag they own, I really don't want to amend the constitution to prosecute someone for foolishly desecrating their own property.” If it is something they own it is their decision what to do with the flag. “The exception is expression that involves the risk of injury to others and the destruction of someone else’s property.” …show more content…

In every decision or opinion, there is going to be someone that gets offended.
