“You can be anything you want to be when you get older” has seemed to be on repeat like a broken record since I started kindergarten. Well, the adults weren’t lying about that. The one thing they won’t mention to girls however, is that whatever career you do choose, you’ll probably be paid less than you’re male counterparts. That’s right- the gender pay gap affects everyone around the world.

(https://www.prb.org/single-working-mothers/) With the 4 million single mothers in the U.S as of 2012, the gender pay gap could mean not being able to pay monthly rent. The women of 1920 fought hard to earn women the right to vote. Now nearly a century later in 2018, the women of the century are fighting hard for the right of equal. The gap is even wider for women of color”. To turn this statistic into a real world example, let’s take a look at the medical field.

That’s an average of $105,000 less a year”. Both male and female doctors attend school for the same amount of time and put in timely training.
Despite these factors, women are still making way less than men in this field.

You’re at school and you suddenly feel ill and need to go home early. Which parent will you call first? Your mother or your father? Most people would call their mom. As an office aide, I experience this everyday. Whenever a student needs to call home, they are more likely to call their mother and only call their dad as a last result (When their mother doesn’t answer).
