Gun Control is one of the most controversial topic in the modern era, Gun control is defined as a regulation of selling, owning, and use of guns. The main debate arises from many people saying that the U.S should have stricter gun laws in order to prevent crimes; however, many others think that these laws will endanger the Second Amendment of the United States Constitution. it’s a subject that means different things to almost everyone and that has strong points for arguments on both sides. It is an issues that encompasses everything from public safety to a person individual rights. That all being said I intend to showcase why government regulation of firearms is needed for the wellbeing of our nation.

This has been the major issue in the way of trying to pass any meaningful gun laws, however the precise text of the Amendment reads- 'A well-regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed'. The most obvious way to interpret it would be that only a Militia can bear arms but this has been defined by the courts in a way that makes it an individual right instead of a group right. Also, it states in this legal report “United States: Gun Ownership and the Supreme Court”. That the courts have also restricted the amount of regulation that can be done on the national level. Which mean that gun control is different from state to state, for instance in the state of New York, a person would need a state issued permit to buy a handgun and open carry is not allowed.
