Persuasive Essay On Guns In School Shootings

Imagine you are attending a lecture in a college, and you find that the students around you are carrying guns. This is totally possible, because the second amendment gives citizens the right to own guns. However, this right seems to be unreasonable. Since 2013, there have been more than 185 school mass shootings, causing more than 180 people injure or dead (“185 School Shootings In America Since 2013”). Just imagine the scenario in which your friends stop breathing or you will never see your children’s faces. Nobody knows who is the next to be shot on campus. It is certain that these accidents would not happen without guns. In the wake of these campus shootings, many states and schools realized the risk of allowing guns on campus. The first one is “concealed weapons”. “Concealed weapons are weapons, especially handguns, which are kept hidden on one's person, or under one's control. Carrying a concealed weapon is illegal in most states unless the party with the weapon is a law enforcement officer or has a permit to carry a concealed weapon.” (“Concealed Weapons Law & Legal Definition”) In my essay, when I use concealed guns, I refer to handguns that satisfied concealed weapons’ definition. (“Gun Control Law & Legal Definition”). The term handgun means “a firearm which has a short stock and is designed to be held and fired by the use of a single hand; and any combination of parts from which a firearm described above can be assembled.” (“Handgun Law & Legal Definition”) Moreover, I will frequently use a phrase called gun control. “Gun control laws aim to restrict or regulate the sale, purchase, or possession of firearms through licensing, registration, or identification requirements” (“Gun Control Law & Legal Definition”).
Before talking about why guns should be banned on campuses, I would like to first introduce some background information about gun control in America. The first event that I think is big enough to mention is the 1938 National Firearms Act. Roosevelt wins approval of this Act, which requires interstate gun dealers get license and to record their sales. It also prohibits sales to individuals who are convicted of crimes.
