Guns have been an important topic throughout our nation in recent years. Many citizens are protesting for the right to obtain a concealed weapon on campuses, as well as protest going against guns on campus. If guns are on campus there could be an increase in crime or threat to campuses and their surroundings. If every college student has the right to carry a weapon on school campus it could just be adding fuel to the fire. A majority of colleges and schools prohibit the carrying of firearms, which had resulted in a very low crime rate. Pro-Gun movements have been extremely relevant in the past years resulting in students being able to carry concealed weapons on campus in select states. A study by the Citizens Crime Commission of New York City looked at one hundred and ninety incidents where at least one person was shot at 142 colleges from the 2001-2002 school year to the 2015-2016 school year ( Crime on College Campus). College shootings can occur when stressed students disagree over any simple subject and the situation could quickly escalate.
