Campus Carry- Safe or Unsafe
Are more guns answer to the safety of students, teachers and faculty on campus? This question has been in controversy for quiet a while and turns out the day is not far away when there will be concealed guns with students and faculty members on campus. As of August 1st, license gun holders will be allowed to carry concealed handguns on campuses of all 4 year colleges and universities according to the new law signed by Republican Gov. Gregg Abbott in 2015. Where some are ready to carry their guns on campus, few are fearful even by the thought. The law spurred many protestors as they continue saying that the students with guns might affect how professors grade. Max Snodderly, a professor of neuroscience at UT Austin and also a member of anti-campus-carry group says that the law threatens to change the way professors treat students, suggesting that grading could become easier because professors would not want to risk angering a student who may be armed (Fiske, M. If there had been any member with a gun, the attack might have been stopped with less people harmed. There have been more attacks besides the “Verginia Tech 2007”. Columbine, Virginia Tech, Sandy Hook and that Chattanooga recruitment center all prohibited firearms, yet they appear in the news only because of the bloodshed that took place (Laporta, J. 2016). This points towards more safety on campus like metal detectors. It makes the government to look towards banning any kind of weapons on campus so that the attackers don’t have their hands on any. Instead the law affirms on more people using it. If the aim is to make everyone safer than not having weapons on campus could be an option. This would not allow any attacker to carry any weapon on
