Heteronormativity is a system of privilege that people enforce the beliefs what is “normal” in our daily life. Gender and sexuality is a big part of the system of Heteronormativity. We had established very strict expectations on each sex. For instance, the boys are dressed in blue, like toy cars and are expected to be aggressive while the girls are dressed in pink, like toy dolls and are expected to be sweet and gentle. When the child chose not to follow the expectations of each gender roles, the child is highly likely to be bullied by their peers, but they could be pressured by their parents or the society to conform the expected gender.
The problems seem to be shown the most when gender nonconforming students attend the school. Then, while in school, they began to feel threatened because they chose not to follow the traditional gender roles, due to the harassment from peers and teachers. Schools are expected to train their teachers on the topics that found in LGBTQ* community. Teachers who will talk about and provide support for them, the LGBTQ* students will feel more comfortable coming to the classroom, thus a higher participation in their class and eventually, the students will receive a higher grade in the class. Encouraging the students to establish a club that will provide the alliance of all the students will increase the feeling of inclusion and safety for everyone, not just non-LGBTQ* students. Lastly, adding the topics in LGBTQ* studies in school curriculum will encourage the students to explore the topics and have a better understanding while being informed the right information will help build the tolerance and the alliance for everyone else in their
