Preschoolers need to become confident in their own actions and abilities. If they are not allowed to follow their own initiative, they feel embarrass for their attempts to do so that seem wrong to others. Supportive parents and teachers can strengthen children initiative by supporting their ideas and accomplishments. Play is important when it comes to fostering initiative. Through play, children can test their ideas about initiative. Teacher goal should be to aim for a positive outlook on self-awareness of feeling. For this to occur, adults need to recognize and accept their emotional responses. When it comes to acceptances of the children feelings, no should be told how they does or doesn’t feel. Teachers need to recognize; strong feelings need strong release. Children need the opportunity to have outlets. Provide the children with materials such as clay, paper to tear, or a ball to kick helps them practice self-control. The art and dramatic play centers are wonderful places were the children can express their feelings. Play is where children expresses and deal with their feeling. The classroom materials should encourage children to play out their feelings. Preschoolers are aware of the difference of a boy and girl. The teacher wants to nurture positive gender identities. Activities should encourage equality of participation by both genders. The classroom should be an anti-bias environment. By doing so, the teacher is helping children of all races and culture background form heathy identity and attitudes. Also, pointing out the similarities instead of the differences can encourage respect among everyone in the classroom. Children need an authoritative adult figure for positive guidance.
