There is no one profile for victims of human trafficking; it could happen to anyone regardless of race, age, disability, or gender identity. Human trafficking is the second-largest criminal industry, and it is one of the fastest-growing criminal operations according to the Department of Justice. “It's all about the money. It is a business to them. A drug is a useable quantity that can be used up one time, a person can be trafficked over and over and over again all day long” (Frontline PBS, 2021, 19:48). Recovering victims helps law enforcement identify and arrest traffickers and purchasers to help obtain evidence to build cases. This deterrent is useful because if traffickers are off the streets, there will be fewer people becoming victims, and arresting purchasers; are useful because instead of getting a ticket and being on their marry way they are being booked, and their pictures end up on websites; and it's no longer a little secret they can keep from their family. Their lives are being shattered, but it is a more useful form of deterrent in comparison to a ticket. The legal system works hand in hand with law enforcement to ensure that justice is served. Evidence is obtained by the detectives by recovering victims and arresting traffickers they use it in court to prove innocence or guilt in this case. Prosecutors have a prominent role in maintaining public safety since they are the ones deciding the severity of charges against the defendant. Defense lawyers work with the defendant; against the prosecution, since they are the ones being charged with the crime. The judge’s role is to listen to both the arguments of the prosecutor and the defense and make a
