In 2009 the number of undocumented immigrants living in this country was 11.1 million and about 60% of them were Mexicans (Passel and Cohn 2010). These illegal immigrants are not just coming from Mexico, but also other South American countries such as: El Salvador, Guatemala, and Honduras. The numbers will only keep going up unless we as a country come up with a solution to deal with illegal immigration. In order to deal with illegal immigration, we need to as a country tighten up the borders, implement a better job program for illegal aliens, and they must become American citizens if they plan to stay.
In America, the number of illegal immigrants has gone up drastically over the past decade. A Rasmussen poll taken in May 2011 found that two-thirds of the American public believes the border with Mexico is not secure (Alden, 108). Immigrants usually migrate to America illegally because they are trying to leave their home country in hope for a better life. A way to stop the many undocumented immigrants from getting in America is to tighten up our borders. More fencing along the 2,000-mile long border and increasing military presence would help to make the US-Mexican …show more content…

Getting your citizenship is a lengthy process but well worth it in the end. You will get the rights every American citizen has and you won’t have the chances of getting deported anymore. People that come into the US and then leave after a year and then come back to the US illegally again, those people should not be able to come back. A lot of families come to America, while the women is pregnant so her children will be US citizens, because they believe if they have a child here it grants them the ability to stay here as well. Wrong, those parents still aren’t American citizens and will be deported if immigration enforcement authorities catch
