Persuasive Essay On Nuclear Power

770 Words4 Pages

Nuclear Power for the United States On April 6, 1945 the first atomic bomb was dropped. This was a huge step beyond all other weapons in existence. Since then the understanding of nuclear power and the benefits has increased. We have gone beyond the weaponizing and moved more into the energy that it can bring to homes for electricity. “Today the United States have 99 nuclear reactors that supply almost 20% of the nation’s electricity creating almost 800 KWh of energy in a year-- half of what coal makes in total.”(Nuclear) Imagine what could be done if the United States had as many nuclear reactors as we have coal factories. There are currently 557 working coal power plants in use. If we had that many nuclear power plants that would create almost 4500 KWh of energy a year which is three times as much as coal produces per year with all those power plants. Most people reject what nuclear energy power brings to the United States because of the risks that they think it brings. They do not fully realize what is in place to make this energy work in the best favor of the people. The United States should create more nuclear reactors because it creates more energy for cheaper, safer way to create energy than coal, and is a cleaner source of energy.

Nuclear Power is the cheapest energy of all the current major energy used-- such as coal, natural gas, and oil--as well as the clean alternative energies that we try to use in the place of the major fossil fuels. According to the Institute of Energy research’ “In 2011 nuclear energy averaged the cheapest cost at 2.1 cents per kilowatt hour of energy”(Electric) The energy that we compare this to is usually one of the biggest of producers coal. Coal is averaging over 3 cents per KWh of energy.(Electric) These energy costs include the building of the facility as well as the operation of
