Everyone should be able to be given proper healthcare whether they have insurance or not. America should convert to a universal healthcare system. There are many pros and cons behind the problems that America faces without a universal plan. Health care and human rights is a problematic topic in every country. According to Procon.org, in the early 20th century, a debate over the right to health care began to emerge. In 1915 the American Association for Labor Legislation drafted a series of bills to provide state medical benefits to low income workers. Government-funded health insurance was considered by President Roosevelt's Committee on Economic Security, Harry S. Truman sent a message to the United States Congress asking for a new national health insurance program to be run by the federal government, and President Richard Nixon laid out a National Health Strategy to reform the health insurance system and move towards universal healthcare. This shows that universal health care is wanted by many. Protesters in NC have protested to not have universal health care. One protester had a sign saying "Hands off my health care!" Doesn't that seem selfish? The U.S. spends substantially more on health care than other developed countries. As of 2009, health spending in the U.S. was about 90% higher than in many other industrialized countries. The most likely causes are higher prices, more readily accessible technology, and greater obesity (Kaiser Family Foundation, May 2012.)
