Organ Donation Organ donation is the process of giving up an organ or a part of an organ for the benefit of someone or something else. Many people are unaware of what Organ donation is really all about and how it proves to be beneficial to thousands of people in need. We as people have the power to save lives with a simple fix, yet we are ignoring all the ways to do so. On average, 21 people die each day because the organs they needed were not donated in time(Donate Life America, 2015). Although with the help of new and improved medical technology and advances in donations, the need for organ, eye, and tissue donation is still high in demand. For every organ donor, 8 lives are saved and 50 lives are changed dramatically. Currently, nearly 124,000 men, women, and children are awaiting organ transplants in the United States(Donate Life America, 2015). Day in and day out families are losing loved ones while awaiting their turn on the transplant list. Some families believe that organ donating prolongs the process of funeral arrangements. In most cases, the process can be completed that day and released to the funeral home the next(Donate Life NC, 2015). It is even still permitted to have an open casket where the appearance of the body has had no change. Organ donation is questioned by many with strong religious beliefs however Islam, Catholicism, Mormons, Baptists, Methodists, and practically all religions support the process. A common setback for many families is the financial expenses they believe they will be burdened with. Your family pays for your medical care and funeral expenses, but not for the organ donations
