Euthanasia also known as ‘mercy-killing’ is a controversial topic between modern society and the Catholic Church. The churches perception of euthanasia is negative and they believe it is unnecessary and not required if people follow Gods ethics. Majority of society shares a contrasting opinion and believes it is a beneficial option for people who are terminally ill and suffering. Catholics believe it affects the passage towards heaven and is considered as a sin to euthanise another human being. It is evident that the churches attitude strongly conveys the negatives towards this practice; therefore it is unknowing whether the increased desire for the legalisation of euthanasia will ever be condoned.

The church empathises that before death each person enters the dying process that consists of Gods mysteries, which strengthens the bond between themselves and their saviour . The process of dying is spiritually important, and should not be disrupted. By committing euthanasia this process is altered, preventing them from dying with dignity . Christianity believes it is unjust to interfere with the process of death, halting one’s spiritual time with God. The Bible supports this view with Ecclesiastes 7:17 questioning, “why shouldest thou die before thy time?” . Premature death can diminish one’s newly found belief in God. If someone chooses euthanasia before committing to establish a strong spiritual connection with God, they will no longer be able to enter heaven . By allowing a person to remain alive, provides them with an opportunity to accept the saviour’s grace and be brought up to heaven. Euthanasia prevents the spiritual time people share with God before their death, it also obstructs any new follows from having the ability to be saved and enter
