Imagine lonesome grass fields with nothing but huge, damaged pillars that are no use to anybody. Imagine that on those fields there are countless pieces of scrap such as large segments of steel, concrete, and iron that nobody has touched for decades. This is what the rail in Hawaii is going to end up looking like several decades from now. Once the rail is completed, the amount of people who use it as a method of transportation won’t be enough to keep rail running. In the future, the entire rail is going to end up in pieces, scattered all over the island. Some will go to landfills, some will end up in the ocean, and some will stay there. The end result will be the same when all those billions of dollars that were spent on rail end up in the drain. Rail should have never been built because it’s expensive, ineffective, and ruins the Honolulu’s landscape. Many tourists come to Hawaii to get away from their busy cities to have a relaxing, quiet vacation, but with the completion of rail this paradise will slowly turn into a loud city. Hawaii's economy mainly depends tourism and rail can make many tourists avoid Hawaii. Besides the effects rail will have on the landscape, the noise pollution from the trains will affect the residents who live near the rail. Each train will generate 79 decibels of noise from 50 feet away, which is similar to the sound of a dishwasher or a washing machine all day long with the added sound of a screeching brake. According to Honolulu Authority for Rapid Transportation, the train will run from four a.m. to midnight, and therefore affect many residents during their sleeping hours (Honolulu Rail).
