A young Syrian girl leaved Syria and came to Lebanon because of the war. She wanted to study but she didn’t find a school. This girl was one of many students I taught in a center in Beirut. She was willing to study more and more, but when she ask “In which grade am I” all of us should stop at this question. She searched for schools in Lebanon but no school allowed her to teach there. This is because of she is a “refugee”.
A refugee is a human who has been forced to run off his or her country due to war or violence as what the UN refugee agency UNHCR states. As a result, the refugee’s return to his or her country of origin is prohibited because of the fear of wars and its consequences. Unfortunately, refugee rights have only got global recognition in the last decades with the overall arrival of the concept of general human rights. Although some countries open their doors to the refugees, they should give them more support and the war should be solved.

We are not talking about one or two million refugees we are talking about 51.2 million (United Nations Refugee Agency, www.unhcr.org). Exiting home suddenly, they have few funds and are exposed to violence. If they get to security, they depend on the people living in the area to which they have fled. International organizations take time to give the support to them. When people reach a temporary refugee shelter, they are recorded for their security and to decide their needs. Each situation is different.
