Being a Mom involves a lot of "on the job" training and being a single Mom can be even more challenging. So, we talked with a few single Moms, to learn what they needed in life and we offer you their advice here today.
Single Moms Needs
Since we've become single Moms, we've learned that we can take care of ourselves and our children, absent a commitment from a man in our lives. It feels great to say that and feel independent and confident in our abilities. At the same time, we still have needs, such as:
Family support: Don’t say it, we know you hate to ask for help! We get it! That said, sometimes you just have to suck it up and do what’s best for you and let’s face facts here, you need some “me” time every once in a while. And there is nothing wrong with that ladies! Before you decide on which group to visit and join, consider:
Does the group have a focus? Consider child age, race, gender, religion, financial support, mentoring or coaching
Is the location of the meetings good for you? Are there online meeting options?
Do they offer quality childcare during the meetings?
Are there organized activities or learning opportunities?
Or is there a sitter who literally just sits?
Are there any fees associated with joining or attending?
If you can’t find the support group that is the right fit for you, consider starting one of your own
