In Texas the number of automobile accidents that were reported by a law officer from 2012-2014 has increased. In just two years alone law officers reported accidents that were caused by cell phone use was up by 121 accidents. Texting while driving seems to be more of a trend that we are seeing especially among young teens. However, Texas has become one state out of forty-four that has not already passed a statewide ban for texting-while-driving. Though it is not a statewide ban other cities in Texas such as Arlington and Denton have already passed ordinances to bar drivers from texting.

Running test to see how threatening this issue is common among American’s while driving simply does not do justice. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reported that in 2012 driver distraction was the cause of 18 percent of all fatal crashes-with 3,328 people killed and crashes resulting in an injury-with 421,000 people wounded. Also reporting that elven percent of drivers aged eighteen to twenty who were involved in an automobile accident and survived admitted they were sending or receiving texts when they crashed. The greatest error in this trend is that it targets young adults that have just started new life experience behind the wheel and the sad reality of a small hand held device that is used on a daily bases in the leading cause of such a hazard issue. The concern to raise awareness to this trend will only be a way to show the dangerous of texting and driving. The truth of not being able to see a loved one come home because they were involved in a car crash from a distracted driver is a chilling reality. Therefore we have companies such as AT&T and Nissan that take part in pledges such as #x campaign and the red
