Gun Restrictions In the Constitution it states that, “a well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed”, protecting the rights of an American citizen to bear arms(Cornell,1). It is our constitutional right to protect ourselves through means of firearms, our right to bear arms. As conflict within our nation rises, the threat of terrorism and other controversial events the question over the regulation of firearms finds its way to the forefront. While firearms should still be legalized, the precautions and levels of safety taken with firearms can help ease violence in America. This right comes from the second amendment enforcing an individual’s right to bear arms; however, certain precautions should be taken as well as addressing the levels of safety. At the time when the amendment took effect, “the amendment was easily accepted because of widespread agreement that the federal government should not have the power to infringe the right of the people to keep and bear arms”, for the ownership of firearms served as the main protection of a citizen (Lund,6).
