An old pass time. Sitting down after a long day of work and placing a cigarette in your mouth. Consumption of tobacco, an abundant plant in the Americas, has been dated back to about 1 B.C.E. (Randall). Many people took part in tobacco use starting when Europeans discovered the New World in the 1400’s (Randall). There are two key ways for tobacco to be used. They are smoking and chewing. In the 1950’s, it was discovered that the common cigarette is tremendously harmful to human health and even contains many known carcinogens and poisons (Proctor). Subsequently, the sale, production, and consumption of tobacco products in the United States should be outlawed to slow the epidemic of cancer and other diseases and promote public health.
Cigarettes happen to be an exceptionally lethal compound. Dr. Robert N Proctor, a professor at Stanford University, is quoted writing that, “The cigarette is the deadliest artefact [artifact] in the history of human civilization [civilization].” The toxins they contain include fungicides and pesticides, Cadmium, Benzene, Formaldehyde, and Nickel, which are all linked to cancer, birth defects, and lung infections (Kleinman).

This epidemic stems from the money-happy, ignorant people that make a living off of the tobacco industry. The cigarette brand Kool once released an ad that said, “Throat dry? Smoke a Kool” (Neavling). This is clearly a false advertisement. In fact, newhealthguide.org, and online health organization, has said, “Moreover, exposure to irritants such as cigarette smoke, pollutants and chemical fumes should also be avoided” (newhealthguide.org), as a way to stop dry and scratchy throats. False advertising is a way of life for people in the tobacco industry. Without it, no one would buy tobacco. What would the true advertising say, “Smoke cigarettes! You will get
