Persuasive Essay On Year Round School

Imagine a school year that never ends. A year without a full summer of, relaxation, and vacations with family, but instead many smaller breaks. For years students have complained about school being stressful and destroying their mental health. Even teachers constantly feel overwhelmed and swamped with work. Long weeks of school with little to no breaks doesn't help this, but after a long 3-month summer of doing nothing academic-related, students struggle and waste time going over old material when they return. Year-round school can help eliminate these issues that students have in school to provide an overall better education and a more positive learning environment.

This means teachers are spending time reviewing information that was taught the year before so they can begin teaching new material. For students to avoid this "summer slide" they must continue to do some sort of academic activity over the long break, which many students don't do. When we return to school it leaves these students behind the rest of the class. This would no longer be an issue with year-round school. It would allow students to really take time for themselves and completely unplug from school compared to having to do some sort of academic activity. According to Scholastic, people say that having a couple of months off in the summer 'kids need a longer break so they can rest and recharge." While this concern is valid, giving students these smaller breaks throughout the school year would no longer need the long 3-month summer because they would have less overall stress throughout the school year. Another issue many people have with year-round school is why spend all the time and money to change to year-round school when it's the same amount of time in school. Marquita S. Blades, Education consultant, and former science teacher in Georgia says that year-round students don't actually learn anymore because "Year-round calendars don't increase the number of days that kids spend in school." While it would make sense that students are in school the same amount of time, they would learn the same amount, is actually not true.
