In extremely heinous crimes, the death penalty is a possible form of punishment for the offenders. Although it may seem acceptable to kill a person for taking away another person’s life, that method is not always the most beneficial choice. Punishing murder with more murder is an extremely ineffective way of dealing with criminals. There are many reasons why the death penalty is an inconvenient and pointless procedure, including its costliness and permanence. Death is the most permanent and definite thing that exists in the world and it is not escapable, avoidable, or undoable. “Since 1973, 151 people have been released from death rows throughout the country due to evidence of their wrongful convictions. In 2003 alone, 10 wrongfully convicted defendants were released from death row.” With so many people facing the ultimate punishment for crimes they did not commit, it is impossible to know that the person on death row truly did commit the crime.
