Should Schools Eliminate School Sports?

Schools sports is sometimes the highlight of a students career, it is shown as the highway to a successful life and free scholarships, but is it really the fastpass it is shown as. Many different articles, books, and studies show differentiating reports about the benefits and disadvantages of school sports. Statistics show that 3.3 billion dollars worth of scholarships were given out during the 2015 school year. But there were also 206,000 football injuries the same year, for kids from 1-14. Schools should eliminate school sports because sports occupy a lot of time out if a student's schedule, students get injured from sports, and funding sports are expensive.

The disadvantages outweigh the benefits. Even if the student gets a scholarship, what difference does it make if they will not get good grades or take easier classes? According to Time Magazine, “Student-athletes tend to take easier classes and get lower grades than non-athletes” (2016). Scholarships are for people who want to get good grades, and if athletes do not do this then what is the point. This is like, a company has been granted money from an investor, but the owner of the business does not care about the business. Even if he has the ability to make his business great it will not make a difference as he does not care. Also, they may get injured and this is much more important than a scholarship.
