Animal testing is a very debatable issue. Each year, more than 100 million animals—including mice, rats, frogs, dogs, cats, rabbits, hamsters, guinea pigs, monkeys, fish, and birds—are killed in U.S. laboratories for biology lessons, medical training, curiosity-driven experimentation, and chemical, drug, food, and cosmetics testing. It has gone on for many years, and it is not right. Cosmetics shouldn’t be tested on animals, also animals should not be used for scientific testing. This issue has been going on for long time, and it should be taken care of. Many animals lose their life because of the testing used on animals. Animals should not be used for scientific or commercial testing. Animal testing is …show more content…
The AWA does not cover rats, mice, fish and birds, which comprise around 95% of the animals used in research. The AWA covered 1,134,693 animals used for testing in fiscal year 2010, which leaves around 25 million other animals that are not covered. These animals are especially vulnerable to mistreatment and abuse without the protection of the AWA. The use of animals in laboratories often amounts to legally-sanctioned animal abuse. The secrecy with which animals in laboratories are kept from the public eye is no accident. An estimated 100 million animals are exploited in biomedical, aeronautic, automotive, military, agricultural, and cognitive research and in consumer product testing. The U.S. is the only country in the world that does not include within its animal welfare laws and regulations the rats, mice and birds who are subjected to research and testing. The federal Animal Welfare Act (AWA) was amended in 1970 to include all warm-blooded animals who are commonly experimented upon. Animal testing is a very debatable issue. Animal testing is cruel and inhumane because the animals are forced to do things they don 't want to. Animals are different than humans so they make poor test subjects and it is very difficult to create an animal model of human. Animals that are being tested are not protected by any Animal Welfare Act so that means that 95%
