I believe school should start later in the day so the students can sleep in. If you start it later, there will be less kids falling asleep in class. Kids will also do better on tests that they have to take. There are even foundations dedicated to getting kids more sleep before school. Other schools have already started to start later like at eight and those schools showed improvement. Starting the schools later can improve how the students do in class.
Sometimes there are kids at the middle school that fall asleep in class. They usually fall asleep since they don’t get enough sleep the night before. High schoolers are the ones that fall asleep the most. With them having day jobs, school, and some having younger siblings, they don’t get enough sleep. Especially with exams and their Senior Theses that they had, they lose a lot of sleep. Even the little kids should get some sleep. The preschoolers are probably falling asleep anyway, since there is no more nap time for them.

With more sleep, kids will be able to remember what they learn in school everyday. Even if they forget to study, they should still get a good score, but should study anyway. A study performed by Dr. Kyla Wahlstrom at the University of Minnesota showed improvements in attendance and alertness, along with a decrease in student-reported depression(The National Sleep Foundation). Teens need eight to ten hours of sleep each night, but most get less. According to a study conducted by the CDC’s Youth Risk Behavior, 69% of U.S. high school students get less than eight hours of sleep(Start School Later).
