I think that zoos are bad for animals. I think they are bad for many reasons. Some animals can get very harmed, or even die. Zoos aren’t the best place for animals. Animals can get Zoochosis, they can get poached, and they don’t get enough exercise.
In fact, most animals in zoos aren’t endangered, this is because zoos are almost always attracted to the more “popular” animals meanwhile, they are ignoring smaller animals who actually need protection. The animals in zoos are all most never released back into their natural habitats, and in rare cases when they are, they have no sense of reality because the zoo has taken care of their every basic need, animals do not survive for long by themselves after being released, they are unfit to cope with life in the wild. If zoos really wanted to save animals from extinction, they would be helping protect animals natural habitats, not keeping them in
The first reason why there shouldn 't be zoos is because they make animals unhealthy. For example, animals live longer in the wild rather than in zoos. Studies have proven that elephants live longer in the wild rather than in zoos (Lin). This means that because zoos make animals unhealthy, they live a shorter life. Another way that zoos make animals unhealthy is that they make animals live in small habitats causing health problems.
This exposure and education motivate people to protect the animals and provide entertainment. Zoos save endangered species by bringing them into a safe environment, where they are protected from poachers, habitat loss, starvation, and predators. “The Arabian Oryx was hunted to extinction in the wild. Zoos Should Be Banned Imagine you are five years old, someone breaks into your home, kills your aunt and possibly your older brother in the process of kidnapping you. You are separated from your loved ones, leaving your mother in severe pain and grief. You are taken somewhere unknown, imprisoned in a cell where people come watch you for their own entertainment.
Zoos have been around for thousand of years and is an enjoyable place for human beings. Research shows that zoos are shortening animals lives, but others strongly contradict the benefits of them. Although zoos might give people positive impacts or strong connections with nature, animals shouldn’t be forced to live in captivity. Zoos are hurting animals lives, and humans are not caring for them and don’t understand how hard it is affecting the animals. Zoos break the animals and their families apart.
Although zoos are keeping some animals from extinction, they are also taking away the survival skills from animals, forced matting for animals, and they are keeping the animals in a cage. Zoos should let some animals out to live and keep the ones that are going extinct. Allowing endangered animals to live in protected environments to let them mate is not a catchall to fix all the issues when protecting an animal that is going extinct. Zoos are taking away survival skills the animal needs in the wild. When animals are in zoos, their ability to hunt and their natural diet is decreased.
Zoos Many people believe that zoos should be shut down, because they are just like animal prison. Many researches show that zoos should be shut down. Many reasons why are one animals should be left where they belong. Next, zoo’s have unsuitable climate and environment for the animals.
Zoos protect animal species that are going extinct. “The Endangered Species Act (ESA) was established to protect birds, mammals, fish, and plants listed as threatened or endangered” (“Captive”). The zoos help protect these animals from predators they might have in the wild , and from poachers. Furthermore, zoos give endangered species a chance to repopulate.

They are much more than a collection of animals and more important than ever, because zoos are a productive and successful strategy for protecting endangered species worldwide. The majority of endangered species are suffering from habitat destruction or exploitation. Captive breeding becomes the last option when basic strategies of preservation and protection in the wild are ineffective. The survival of Pere David 's deer, Przewalski 's horses, the North American wood bison, and the Arabian oryx, are common examples of productive conservation efforts undertaken by zoos worldwide.
Zoos may be very necessary for endangered species. But, there are different ways how to save and continue endangered species, and every zoo have had choice how they do it. Some zoos are breeding endangered species trying to continue the species, but that is not right, because it leads to very complicated health issues. For example white tiger who are very rare animal, breeding requirements are that all white tigers parents must be white tigers too, to get only white tiger, and so are zoos breeding white tigers fathers with their daughters and mothers with their sons. But some zoos again are preserving and studying endangered species in captivity to save endangered species in the wild.
Should we be keeping animals in zoos? How does that really help the animal? Can we keep them safe? As referenced in the text “The Impact Of Animal Protection,” human activities have been destroying animal habitats to make roads or more buildings, even hunting for sport! So to protect these animals, we’ve created zoos and nature parks for the animals, but are both of them really benefiting the animals?
If zoos were really concerned, they would try to conserve animals in their natural habitat, “the only way to realistically stop extinction is to preserve the world’s habitat and ecosystems,” (Zoos n.p). While zoos may help a bit, there are better ways to help and learn from
A lot of people think that zoos are good because they help repopulate, but no one thought that the only reason why we need to repopulate some species, was because of poaching and hunting. If people never had poaching and hunting, most animals are capable out there in the wild. On the other hand, Zoos have research programs that help expand our knowledge about animals, especially the endangered species. The information gained by these programs can help protect and treat the species in the wild, as well as determine what effects if any climate change may have on the regions needed for the species to flourish. Many zoos also have breeding programs for all kinds of species, endangered or not, and learn even more about the species during the breeding, and rearing process.
