Persuasive Letter For High School Graduation

I am writing to you in order to spread awareness of the importance of increasing the high school graduation rate and a possible solution. After I had realized this issue I took upon myself to improve on the situation by becoming the President of the Hispanic Organization Promoting Education at my high school. I hope that this letter reaches an audience that will realize the importance of this problem and will take action as well.
Acquiring a high school diploma is integral, but most people do not realize how how much it determines future lifestyle. Adults that do not graduate high school have a lower expected lifetime earning because higher paying jobs require a diploma. These factors typically relate to each other and are part of a longer disengagement from school that cause students to drop out, rather than one sudden, major event. Many of these factors are out of a student's control, including socioeconomic status, location, being non-white, and parent’s education. Socioeconomic status limits the resources students can pay for, and where they are able to live. A low socioeconomic status might also mean that a student needs to have a job to support their family. Racial minorities have one of the largest disadvantages considering that forty percent of Hispanic and Black students do not graduate on time. Many non-white students have parents that are immigrants, which means there is often a cultural and language barrier between them and the school. Being an immigrant also plays into the education parents have because they most likely received their education in another country and do not know how the education system works in the U.S. It can be difficult for immigrants to encourage their children when they don’t know how to help them. In fact, states with high White graduation rates had some of the lowest minority student graduation rates.
