In Australia, refugees and asylum seekers are treated like the enemy in a war: the target of a highly resourced, military-led “deterrence” strategy complete with arbitrary detainment, detention camps, guards to terrorise them, forced deportations and the violent suppression of those who protest. Australia is failing to meet the standards required when regarding the treatment of asylum seekers. It is fact that asylum seekers make up less than 3% of Australia’s annual immigration yet the idea is being distorted to that of which they will overpopulate a country that prides itself on being a multicultural society. I want to shed light on the misconception that asylum seekers are not ‘legal’ when in actual fact it is a human right to seek freedom.
Australian rock is a developed genre from the U.K, U.S.A and Europe, as well as its own unique Australian sound with pub rock and indigenous music. Australian rock had its roots in the 1950’s and 60’s when the particular style of music was quickly growing popular overseas. In the 1970s bands such as AC/DC, Cold Chisel and Little River Band became well known for their rock and by the 80s Australian music had developed its own original rock sound and became popular around the world. Performing live music in pubs soon proved to help bands as this is how they developed their style in the early days of their careers. DACA a program passed under the Obama administration in which protected immigrants from deportation has changed the lives of so many people also known as Dreamers. This program has given many immigrants the opportunity to a better future. Since Trumps announcement on the end of the DACA program, it has created a lot of controversy on why we shouldn't end the program. Experts believe that ending DACA would greatly affect our economy. Most of the programs recipients have pursued a better job or furthered their education which has created a better chance of hiring higher skilled workers.

Being Hispanic can sometimes make you feel like you're not being treated equal in certain situations, I can feel being discriminated or even looked down upon if I am at a place where I don't necessarily "fit in." Being raised in a small community that doesn't have many different races has taught me that yes there is people out there that will not like you based on your skin color and where you come from, but there will be people that will treat you equal no matter what race you are or what skin color you have. As I've grown older I've come to realize and talked to my family about, embracing who you are. I love being able to speak both Spanish and English. It is so important to love yourself in the skin you're in and embrace your unique culture
Imagine if you were born into a country filled with poverty, fear, anxiety, despair and sorrow. The pain and suffering you would go through every day was so violent that you and your family had given up on all measures of hope. Every day you would fear persecution and you couldn’t even feel safe in the comfort of your own home. But what if there was a sliver of hope of escaping this drama occurring in your homeland by leaving by boat. All this drama gone in a flash, wouldn’t you want to try?
How would you feel if you and your family were denied the opportunity to a better life or had to wait years for one? The immigrants goal is to strive for a better future for themselves and their family. Coming here will help them achieve that goal. You may be thinking why cant they have a good future where they live? In some cases, the country they live in could be poor, not have many schools, is not safe, etc.
Australia needs a new flag. Ever since 1788 when Australia was discovered by Captain Cook the flag has contained the Union jack, In the UK the Union Jack may be patriotic, it may stand for peace and union but here the union jack stands for disrespect, oppression and the killing of the original custodians of this land. I believe that it is time for a change, the UK has represented us for too long and with the union jack on or flag it only says that we still believe the old ways of when Captain cook first arrived and that nothing has changed, I believe we should finally change the flag so that we can fully represent and honour the custodians of our land.
The United States of America is a land of freedom, a land of equality, and opportunity. We value independence and should look to exercise this in every form, as a nation. We must stay united and show respect to one another. This means we should not disregard ones ' ethnicity and culture, and use names in which are offensive towards their culture, in order to promote any sort of activity. This is aimed mainly at sports teams that carry racially inappropriate names.

Our Founding Fathers created America so that everyone could have a chance at "life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness". Those are aspects of my country, I would never change because they are what make us unique. The glow of America casts a ripple of hope upon those who struggle.
