Philosophy Of Special Education

Teaching young minds is a task that cannot be taken lightly. It is full of challenges, frustrations, and responsibilities. In special education, some of these challenges and responsibilities tend grow larger depending on a student’s disability. But, these challenges do not simply have to be a major problem. Even though students may have a different rate at comprehending certain levels of education, students with disabilities should have the same opportunity as students without disabilities to fulfill their educational needs or goals. As a future educator, I strongly feel that believing in my students will give them the self-gratification and motivation that is needed for them to succeed in their education.
I strongly believe that all children have the capability to learn at every point in his or her lifetime. The capacity at which a child learns is different for every child with and without disabilities. Even though some students might have a different rate at learning, I believe that students with disabilities should have the same opportunity to education as students without disabilities. I believe that the most important quality a special education teacher should have is patience and motivation towards a student. In teaching students with disabilities, it is very important to be patient with your students seeing as some students do not work at the same level or rate as others. As an educator, you must be able to spend extra time with students in different areas for them to fully understand each lesson. Motivation is another major key to being a successful special education teacher. This will boost their self-esteem while pushing them to do the best that they can
