The Vision statement “Transforming society by optimizing movement to improve the human experience” 1 was adopted in 2013 by the House of delegates of the APTA for the Physical Therapy profession. The statement itself can be deconstructed into three pieces transforming society, optimizing movement, and improve the human experience. The first piece is transforming society. Physical therapists are movement specialists.1 Society recognizes basic knowledge of the health benefits that arise from moving and transformation of body. If us as aspiring and/or licensed physical therapist can set up programs for people with anomalies, dysfunction, and conditions that can be treated or affected by moving, walking, running, and playing we will begin to transform society, it may begin at a slower rate, but we all had to start somewhere. When it comes to society and groups of society, transformation is easily brought upon by what some call “the cascade effect”. “Cascade effect refers to a process that proceeds in stepwise fashion from an initiating event to a seemingly inevitable conclusion”2. When one person begins to change and reaps the benefits, others assimilate with that one person and will also began to accept the ideas in place and want to acquire transformation of self to become a less sedentary and healthier individual. To optimize movement, we must be able to use the knowledge and resources we have been taught and provided in the most effective way. By collaborating not only with PTs but Physicians, OTs, Orthopedics and others in the medical field we as a collective group would be able to enhance life of others. So, they may be persistent in recoveries, have the resilience to fight through dysfunctions that may impede them to be with their loved ones, and give them the hope and client-based rehabilitation or help they need to get back on their feet and be the best locomotive human they can
