Every state in the US has an affiliated chapter branching from the national organization that advocates for all Physician Assistants, known as the American Academy of Physician Assistants (AAPA). The American Academy of Physician Assistants handles licensing requirements, networking opportunities, job resources, and provides tools to improve PA practice and patient care for each state and federal service chapter. These individual state affiliations branching from the AAPA are pertinent to the Physician Assistant profession because they allow for more direct and local resources for Physician Assistants. Having an individual state chapter makes it easier to find local jobs in the area and get answers to questions about each state law requirement.
In 1968, American Academy of Physician Assistants (AAPA) formerly known as the American Association of Physician Assistants was established in North Carolina by the first graduate students of Duke University Physician Assistant program. Since then PA profession has grown to tremendous heights. I never once thought I would be in this predicament when I entered high school. The failure I have experienced during my junior year took it’s toll on me. Already struggling with depression and anxiety. I was driven into an even darker path. However, my mother got me through that dark time.
When becoming a physician 's assistant you must always be attentive to your grades even when in high school. This is simply because it is a very competitive course to be accepted into. If you plan on entering into the physician 's assistants program there are prerequisite courses throughout high school that you should be applying yourself if possible. These courses include chemistry and biology which is usually taken in your sophomore or junior years. Another would be anatomy and physiology which in high school is offered as an elective course and sometimes offered as a college credit if payed for.

My story started several years ago, more than I care to count, when I stumbled into the health care world as a paramedic in rural Pennsylvanian. After hearing their stories about the things they were learning and doing I also joined a volunteer fire department, mostly out of curiosity. I have always felt the need to help people any time I can. Being helpful to others has always felt like an accomplishment. Thinking about that, I have come to the time where I need to pick my occupation. Should I be a physical therapist assistant or a pediatrician is the decision I have to make. But with choosing my occupation, I need to also keep in mind a few things, the pay rate, employment demand, years of schooling, and the job environment.
As you know, I 'm currently taking and, by the way, enjoying your Medical Terminology course. I 'm working towards my Medical Assistant certification. My undergraduate journey can be described as a difficult and arduous task, not an uncommon consensus of many. When I first started college it was quite difficult to decipher, how to study and how to delegate time in order to be successful. Each class I took seemed more of a trial and error experiment to discover how I can achieve a good grade. I graduated from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville with a cumulative GPA of 2.75, a grade that in no way I was proud of since I would spend countless hours and late nights in the library. The reality is that there wasn’t much of an excuse for this performance, rather it this was an attribute to a lack of prudence and immaturity on my part.
I began my undergraduate education at Colorado State University in 2004. I declared my major as Business Administration with a concentration in Marketing. At this point in my life, I had no clue what I wanted to do for my career and thought this would be the best option and give me the most diversity of career options. Going into my sophomore year, I began a job in the emergency department at the hospital located in the college town. During my first day, I got to see a variety of emergent and non-emergent medical procedures.
My career goals are to get a job as a physicians assistant under an orthopedic surgeon. I have had three knee surgeries and have spent a lot of time in orthopedic offices. They helped me get better and get back to playing sports and doing my everyday activities. It is my goal to become one of them and help out as many people as possible. I want to build real relationships with my patients to show that I truly do care about them.

The ups and downs, the long nights of studying, beginning my undergraduate studies, I truly was not prepared for the difficulties I would face.
The last year of high school was the toughest time of my life, because I got married, had a son and got a divorce. In addition, of being a new mother; my husband moved me away from all help and support. During that year, he made sure that he knew where I was and what I was always doing, especially if I was to go to my mother’s house or shopping with her. After I graduated in 2007, he then allowed me to see my family more but only on his terms. It wasn’t till that July when he kicked me and our son out of our house.
