My undergraduate journey can be described as a difficult and arduous task, not an uncommon consensus of many. When I first started college it was quite difficult to decipher, how to study and how to delegate time in order to be successful. Each class I took seemed more of a trial and error experiment to discover how I can achieve a good grade. I graduated from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville with a cumulative GPA of 2.75, a grade that in no way I was proud of since I would spend countless hours and late nights in the library. The reality is that there wasn’t much of an excuse for this performance, rather it this was an attribute to a lack of prudence and immaturity on my part.
Shortly after graduation, uncomplacent with my performance in my undergraduate I signed up for an online coarse from the University of California at San Diego proctored by Dr. Barbara Oakley which focused on the science of learning. This coarse helped me change my mindset in how I viewed and tackled obstacles. It also helped me view my undergrad journey with a fresh view, which allowed me to evaluate my mistakes and accomplishments. Classes such as Microbiology and Anatomy and Physiology (which were classes required for my program) had its reputation for its demanding dedication and arduous work load. The decision of enrolling to this classes were not taken lightly knowing that the performance in this course will reflect any improvements on my ability to handle strenuous materials.
