Hindu Religion
India is one of the largest countries in Asia and has one of the largest Hindu populations. The rituals and ceremonies of this rich and colorful religion are well practiced and are a deeply embedded part of Hindu culture. In the US our religion and practices are somewhat compartmentalized to certain days of the week and also take place within a church or a temple. India practices its religion in the forests, on the streets, along and in the Ganges river, in people’s homes as well

Durga Puja Ceremony
Yajna, which means a sacrifice, devotional practice, worship or special offering, is done in front of a sacred fire. The ceremonies include all the elements, fire, earth, air, water, and ether.
Shiva, Kali, and Durga are three of the most important deities worshipped. They are colored blue to represented the color of the beautiful lotus flowers. Also as otherworldly in nature.
Shiva ceremonies include mantras, meditations and songs known as Bhajans for the Lord Shiva. Shiva represents ultimate goodness. Worshiping Shiva usually includes the 108 names of Shiva recited 108 times. One hundred eight is a special sacred number in many Hindu practices that bring a connection on the inner to the power of the Universe. Traditionally there are 108 dance forms as well as 108 beads on the prayer bead chain.
The Durga Puja ceremony, sometimes known as the greatest festival in India, occurs annually to revere and honor the Goddess Durga. She is known as a warrior Goddess who can protect one from all forms of evil and is depicted with 10 arms. Each arm has a special power to fight off evil.
