The Beginning of it All
Ch. 1

Pip meets the escapee
Pip was at his father and mothers grave
The criminal asks Pip for some materials in order to cut off the metal brace on his ankle

Characters:

Pip- orphan child who lives with his older sister and her husband
Mrs. Joe- Pip’s older sister
Mr. Joe- Pip’s brother in-law who is a blacksmith
Escapee- prisoner that ordered Pip to get some tools for him

Study Guide Questions:

Pip is Mrs. Joe’s little orphan brother and Mr. Joe is her husband who is a blacksmith.
Pip meets an escapee that has a metal iron brace on his ankle.
He is threatened to bring a file and some wittels.

Ch. 2

Found out that Mrs. Joe Gargery abuses Joe and Pip
Pip got a guilty conscience because

Joe didn’t get too mad he was gone
Joe gives Pip gravy to make him feel a little more comfortable and say “sorry”
Joe’s uncle drinks the tar
Mrs. Joe is acting fake because company is over
Pip ran for the door and ran into soldiers

Characters:

Mr.Wopsle- the clerk at the church
Mr. Hubble- person who makes and repairs wheels and wheeled vehicles
Mrs. Hubble
Uncle Pumblechook- Joes uncle who was a corn merchant, had his own chaise-cart
Pip wasn’t allowed to call Joe’s uncle “uncle”
Soldiers came to the door

Study Guide Questions:

Joe gives Pip more gravy during dinner for sympathy because everyone was giving him crap.
Mr. Wopsle is the clerk at the church and Uncle Pumblechook is Joe’s uncle who is a corn merchant has his own chaise-cart.
At the end of chapter 4 Pip runs for the door but gets stopped by soldiers with muskets and a pair of handcuffs

The soldiers just need Joe to fix a pair of handcuffs
The soldiers ask everyone in the house about the convicts
Pip’s escapee protects him and told the soldiers that he stole the food and file for himself
Pip’s convict said a statement that he stole from Joe
