Out of all the controversial topics that have been vehemently debated for years, it is no surprise that the funding of organizations such as Planned Parenthood has been near the top of the list. The seemingly endless struggle over what is seen as "the right thing to do" has caused a metaphorical line to be drawn in our society. One of the biggest issues concerning the funding of this program is the misconception that the only thing Planned Parenthood offers is abortion. This is done by working with individuals in order to find a way that the services can be paid for. The majority of patients without health insurance are able to pay through a discount or payment plan that is custom to the individual and their income. The flexibility allows for patients to receive attention regardless of their household income or health insurance provider. Planned Parenthood is able to work with low income households because 40% of their funding is received through federal funding (romper.com). Detracting government funding could cause the organization to begin accepting privatized donations. With an unguaranteed budget, the organization’s foundation could become unstable which may consequently lead to the disbandment of the program altogether. If the program were to end, millions of americans could lose access to the only form of healthcare available to them. This is a common belief among pro-life activists who fight for the defunding of Planned Parenthood. They believe that their tax money should not go to fund a program that is fundamentally against their beliefs. They see abortion as the killing of a human life. However, if someone does not agree with a war that their country has entered, they will still be taxed in order to fund the war.
