Such as Ob/Gyn visits, birth control, mammograms, STD tests, health education programs, diabetes and anemia screenings, physical exams and much more.
Planned Parenthood provides reproductive healthcare that includes contraceptives, sexual care, cancer screening, sexual education, and family planning. Even though anti-abortion groups are raving happily of an apparent success, defunding Planned Parenthood will bring more consequences than a payoff.
Planned Parenthood is a program that has been helping people pay for essential procedures without a large fee. It should continue to be covered by the government because of the immense help it has offered people for years. Can we survive if Planned Parenthood was defunded? Planned Parenthood is a non-profit organization that does research into and gives advice on contraception, family planning, and reproductive problems. They work to educate and empower individuals to make independent, informed, decisions about their sexual reproductive lives. Planned Parenthood also provides information, healthcare, and promote public policies that make those services available to all. Defunding would cause serious devastation amongst millions of people.
While Planned Parenthood itself does not get any money directly from the government, it could still be “defunded” in another way. A bill could be passed that would decrease or stop Title X funding and Medicaid reimbursement to sexual and reproductive health centers such as Planned Parenthood. Since these centers perform abortions, many government officials who oppose them are in favor of the proposed bill (Silver and Kapadia 1040). The eventual result would be Planned Parenthood getting shut down (“Facts & Figures”) which would have a negative impact on a large population. More specifically, Planned Parenthood receives reimbursements because of people who rely on programs like Title X and Medicaid (“Facts & Figures”).
