Pocahontas:
“Sometimes the right path isn’t always the easiest.” This is a famous quote from Matoaka also known as Pocahontas. Pocahontas was known for saving the lives not only of John Smith, but also of the Native Americans. Even though life for Pocahontas was rough when she was captured, she fell in love with John Rolfe which was the first recorded marriage between a Native American and an European. Pocahontas died young of an illness that people are not quite certain about. People believe that Pocahontas fell in love with John Smith, which is portrayed in the Disney movie Pocahontas. Matoaka or Pocahontas, however does not have a happy ending like in the movie.
Pocahontas saved the English Captain, John Smith, from death. He was almost executed during an Indian ceremony, but Pocahontas stepped in and saved the day. Matoaka-(Pocahontas) not only saved him from a near death, she told him about her father's plans of putting the English colony in danger. Matoaka visited the colony of Jamestown when the food supply was scarce. Not only did Pocahontas risk her life for John Smith, but she also risked her life to help the colony gather food.

In the movie, Pocahontas fell in love with John Smith while they were both adults. In real life, she was only eleven years old while he was twenty-eight years old. Even in the movie, it explains that Pocahontas was engaged to Kocuum, but chose John Smith instead. The beginning of that statement is correct, but she chose John Rolfe instead of John Smith. There are many different pieces of the movie that are not accurate or correct, but they were wanting to go for a “Romeo and Juliet” theme, so they made her fall for John Smith. Even though parts of the movie are wrong, it still tells the story of how Pocahontas was very kind to
