The Lucinda Matlock poem was written by amazing author name Edgar Lee Masters. Edgar Lee Masters had a successful career as a lawyer in his Chicago firm. He wrote many of him poems, plays, and essays in his firm, but when one of his friends gave him a copy of Selected Epitaphs from the Greek Anthology, which is a collection of Epitaphs that captured the essence of people’s personal lives. Jeremy Hwang Mrs. Creelman AP/GT Phoenix IV, Period 7 28 January 2018 Poetry Exploration Five A.M. is a time in which most people are usually asleep, yet those who are awake get to experience the solemn time of day. Five A.M. by William Stafford and Five Flights Up by Elizabeth Bishop convey different points of view and state of mind during this exclusive time of day. Stafford asks rhetorical questions and ponders in the serenity of Five A.M. Bishop on the other hand expresses her currently disturbed mood, which is affected by her subjective opinions on her surroundings. Both speakers depict a similar scene of morning experience, but both portray different states of mind. Stafford’s poem is written in free verse style that plays off an easy
Poetry as defined from Webster’s Dictionary is the art of rhythmical composition, written or spoken, for exciting pleasure by beautiful, imaginative, or elevated thoughts. That definition does not only describe how Nikki Grimes writes her poems, but the poetry written in her novel Bronx Masquerade. Tyrone Bittings never liked school, his friends were the only thing keeping him there. When his high-school English teacher speaks about the Harlem Renaissance, his class starts to write poetry of their own. We learn more about Tyrone and his classmates that we may have never known before.
Jane Evershed is one of those people that has the ability to speak through her artwork. This is a wonderful skill to have, as a picture is worth a thousand words. She speaks most openly to women, those who may or may not have endured the discrimination, oppression, sexual assault, and abuse from loved ones or society itself. Society makes it harder for women to accept themselves as they are. They come in all shapes and sizes, ethnicities and backgrounds, religions and sexualities.
Poetry is the literature created from the soul. The idea behind poetry feeds from the emotion and the creativity given by the author. For some, Poetry is understood as the desire for no written rules or room for boundaries. This reflection will present an analysis of the various techniques and interventions which develops a poem. The reflection will also compare and critic the works of Charles Olson (1997) and Jill Jones (2009).

This allows the audience to feel what the poet is feeling when writing the poem. A poet should be able to create a story that not only states what happens but also provides a deeper meaning that unfolds an underlying storyline. Poetry is a form of art rather than a form of journalism or history. Instead of simply relaying information, a poet uses language and imagery to make the poem feel real. The poem should stimulate readers to think about different ways to interpret the text, instead of everything being

Poetry as an art form of literature has been known worldwide for many decades. Poetry is used to express ideas and create themes for the people to understand. With each moral theme comes a message of why the author needs to grasp our attention. While poetry is being written today, it is phenomenal how good the poet is. By examining writers such as Langston Hughes, Walt Whitman, or Angela de Hoya , it is important to think about their motivational skills and how they feel towards society as it is.
Ralph Waldo Emerson and Walt Whitman emphasize the importance of living true to yourself and developing complete self-acceptance. To live true to yourself and completely accept who you are, you must understand your identity and your sense of self. In Self-Reliance, Emerson explains that your identity and your sense of self is spiritual. Whitman argues, in Song of Myself, that your identity and sense of self is based on both your soul and your body. While both Emerson and Whitman allow for intimate connections and friendships, Emerson encourages people to have relationships with a select few, whereas Whitman encourages people to connect with everyone and anyone, due to their different views of self.
“Poetry Is Not a Luxury” (1982) intertwines feminism and poetry together. Author Audre Lorde says that for women, “poetry is not a luxury, but a necessity of our existence” (Lorde, 1982, pg. 281). In today’s society, women’s opinions aren’t really expressed, because it’s not widely accepted in this man-built world. Lorde’s quote “poetry is not a luxury, but a necessity of our existence” means that women should use their voices and channel their energy into poetry. Since poetry is accepted, women aren’t being deviant.
Poetry is a very unique type of writing. Poetry allows people to express their emotions in a way they feel comfortable. Every poem has a meaning to it, whether it is talking about food, interest, or a moment in their lives. Readers often mistake the poet as the narrator, although in many cases this is true. Many poets are the narrators and the poems are about their personal life.
American poet and short story-writer, Elizabeth Bishop was known for her highly accurate point of view and detailed descriptions of the physical world that surrounded her. The poet used to focus on specific topics, ranging from the difficulty of finding meaning in life and the expression of her grievance. In 1946, Bishop published ‘North and South’, a collection of poems which introduce the major themes in Bishop’s poetry such as the human connection with the natural world, the description of geography and landscape. Although ‘Argument’ is a poem which seems to be related with love and feelings, it also deals with the flowing time.
“Bishop’s carefully judged use of language aids the reader to uncover the intensity of feeling in her poetry.” While studying Elizabeth Bishop 's poetry, it was remarkably clear that Bishop 's carefully judged use of language aids the reader to uncover the intensity of feeling in her poetry. In the six poems in which I studied by this poet, we can see how Bishop used the languages to her advantage in a way that helped the reader to uncover the intensity of feeling in her work. We can see the emotions in her poetry through a mix of language types and techniques within "The Fish", "The Prodigal", “In the Filling Station", "In the Waiting Room", "Sestina" and "First Death in Nova Scotia". Throughout my answer, I will discuss her language types and techniques within her poetry.
