Poetry Analysis All over the world there are diverse authors who want to represent their feeling in the various types of writings. One of the most frequently used classifications of writing can include poetry; a composition that represents a feeling on a specific topic that is meant to be read or listened to. As stated before, there are hundreds of different poems, yet two of my favorite poems can include “The Tyranny of a Nice or Suburban Girl” by Sarah J. Liebman and “Autobiography in Five Short Chapters” by Portia Nelson. Although both of these poems possess powerful tones as well as structures that are able to pass the meaning of the poem to the reader, the two of them are very different when it comes to figurative language.
Poetry is a form of literary expression that uses language to evoke emotions, paint pictures, and convey ideas. In a poem, the writer employs specific techniques such as rhyme, meter, imagery, metaphor, and other literary devices to create a unique and powerful experience for the reader. The techniques used by a poet can shape the poem's meaning and impact and help convey the poet's message or intention. Poetry allows writers to explore complex themes and ideas creatively and effectively. Its techniques have been used for centuries to express love, longing, joy, sadness, and many other human emotions.
In this essay we’re going to compare the similarities and differences between Walt Whitman, Angela Dehoyos, and Langston Hughes, and how they see America in their own eyes. The similarities
William Woodsworth one said "Poetry is the spontaneous overflow of powerful feelings: it takes its origin from emotion recollected in tranquility". Poetry can be an incredibly powerful type of literature that has something more than just words on piece of papers. As it was stated in the poem “The Secret Life Of Books" books have life, it influences people to share their interpretation of a poem. It provides many people different interpretation of life and literature. Each person has different interpretation of poems and that is what that makes poem so powerful and creative.
This allows the audience to feel what the poet is feeling when writing the poem. A poet should be able to create a story that not only states what happens but also provides a deeper meaning that unfolds an underlying storyline. Poetry is a form of art rather than a form of journalism or history. Instead of simply relaying information, a poet uses language and imagery to make the poem feel real. The poem should stimulate readers to think about different ways to interpret the text, instead of everything being
Gwendolyn Brooks: Writing poetry is tough. It demands precision in word choice, careful crafting of rhythm, a deep dive into emotions, and it brings out your creativity. A poet navigates through the difficulty of language, striving to express feelings that the average human can’t put into words. Each line is a deliberate choice, aiming to stay with the reader's heart and mind. But, there are some poets that don’t just impact humanity, but also impact English Literature.
Poets use the art of words to convey the emotions they want to express. When a poet creates sentences using metaphors and other techniques, they can be used to be interpreted anyway that you would like. A lot of people use poetry as an outlet to express what they may not be able to express otherwise. It is an easy way to get feelings across and a lot of people can view it as many different things. With the strong negativity people are facing in this society, poems are a way to get your feelings across and understand how others are feeling as well.
These poets were both significant and influential, which is why their poems are still shared throughout current generations. One similarity that is showed in Angelou’s “Still I Rise” and Hughes’ “I, Too” is that they both show self-confidence. Maya Angelou uses “I” multiple times in her poem to show how she has strength, she believes in herself, and she can rise above the mistakes to make a better future for herself. Hughes’ poem also has a repetition of “I” to show that he is self-confident and powerful. In addition, both poems share the feeling of beauty in them.
Poetry expresses your feelings and ideas in a distinctive style and rhythm, through the different types of imagery. A main purpose of poetry today is to deepen our understanding of stories. Poets use imagery to describe the setting, and which it strengthens their poem. Robert Gray, an Australian Imagist uses imagery to reinforce journey in his poems. Gray uses strong, vivid, and visual language, so we can picture what he sees.
Langston Hughes and Maya Angelou were African Americans alive during the period in American history when minority groups were fighting hard for their rights and respect among the country. These two authors used their writing skill to shed light on how African Americans felt throughout this period of time, opening many people’s eyes to how the oppressed truly felt. The civil rights movement could have had an entirely different outcome if it weren’t outspoken individuals such as these two. In Hughes’s well known poem “I, Too,” Hughes talks about how the people that mistreat him will soon regret everything they’ve done and will realize the true potential of him and everyone like him.
His works are full of realistic qualities. Moreover, they are long with deep messages, as well as well-structured and detailed. Furthermore, his poems are democratic both subject and the language which shows how intellectual was his imaginary and visual style of writing. To both Emily Dickinson and Walt Whitman, the individualism in society has a huge importance which, at the same time, inspired their style of writing. Also, they accept the importance of God in connection with nature and immortality.
Poetry is a very unique type of writing. Poetry allows people to express their emotions in a way they feel comfortable. Every poem has a meaning to it, whether it is talking about food, interest, or a moment in their lives. Readers often mistake the poet as the narrator, although in many cases this is true. Many poets are the narrators and the poems are about their personal life.
That is why these poems are about and why they are so similar. Finally, many poems during this time were written about Civil Rights. There were many writers, especially African American authors that wrote about all the horrible things that were going on during this time. There were many more writers like Langston Hughes and Maya Angelou.
The aspect of poetry is essential in life whether it’s through literature or learning from others’ experiences. If it’s structured in a rhyme scheme or free verse, it still flows and that’s the beauty of it. The language of poetry consists of poetic devices giving the readers a different sense of writing styles through their word choices. Within metaphors, allusions, tones, and more, makes the poem alive. Poems that were written in the 1900s and way back still even matter today which also helps make world connections.
“Poetry is ordinary language raised to the Nth power. Poetry is bonded with ideas, nerved and blooded with emotions, all held together by the delicate, tough skin of words,”(Paul Engle). Poetry covers all spectrums of life, whether it encompasses morality, love, death, or finding ones true self. When reading poetry one may stumble across pure brilliance, words so powerful they have the ability challenge the mind. Emily Dickinson and Walt Whitman have that such gift, and are nothing short of illustrious.
