1.1 Identify current legislation, national guidelines, policies, procedures, and protocols in relation to moving and handling individuals.

Within the moving and handling of individuals within the health care sector there are various legislations and policies we must always comply with to ensure safe moving and handling of the individuals that we care for. It is important that we follow all these effectively not only to protect the service users, but also ourselves and the company we work for. Manual handling operations regulations (MHOR) 1992 (as amended 2002). o As far as possible, avoid any manual handling activity that is hazardous and could result in injury. o Where it is not practical to avoid, then risk assess and put measures in place to reduce or eliminate the risk of injury. o Employers must provide all necessary equipment and training. o Employees must do everything they can to keep themselves and others safe, attend training, only perform manual handling tasks that they have been trained in, adhere to policies, procedures and manufactures instructions and report/record any hazardous activities.

The first thing I would do is identify the risk and look at who can be harmed and if so how, I would then evaluate the risk record any findings and report with my employer. Remove of any risk that would enable anyone to be harmed. Ensuring that all my finding is reporting correctly.
3.4 Describe the action to take if the individual’s wishes conflict with their care plan.

You should always follow the individuals care plan and explain to the individual that I must follow care plan what is in the care plan and how it ensures the individuals safety. You should never just do what a service used wants without it being in the care plan to ensure the health and safety of the individual. I should then report these issues to my manager.
4.5 Describe the aids and equipment that may be used for moving and positioning.

Moving and handling has a various number of aids that can be used for each client depending on their needs, these are; o Stand aids – these are used for simple transfers for example chair to toilet manoeuvres for clients who can weight bare. o Hoists – these are used for clients who are unable to weight bare. o Banana boards – these are used for transfers such as bed to
