We, as Americans, are a very heterogeneous mixture. Especially when it comes to politics. Political Ideology is a person’s belief about who should run the country and how it should be run. Everyone has different views and ideals that shape their beliefs about politics. People are shaped by their religion, where they live, their culture, education, age, race, ethnicity, and their gender. There are different variations of political groups and these groups have names to clarify their beliefs. These groups are most commonly known as Liberals, Conservatives, Libertarians, and Populists. With each group comes different beliefs and opinions about our nation. Liberals are defined as caring, committed, progressive activists. Although the term has changed over time, a Liberal today believes in an active government to regulate business. They support social welfare and they protect rights for minorities. Liberals believe that the government should protect the people and provide for them. This makes them eager for government programs such as ObamaCare. They believe that people have the right, to be gay, to have abortions, and to look to the government for support. They describe themselves as moderate and responsible. Today, Conservatives believe in a more limited government, free markets, and tougher policies against criminals. Conservatives are against abortion, and they believe the second amendment gives us the right to bear arms. They believe that we deserve the right to protect ourselves, and that guns in the hands of the people mean less crime.
