Setting:
The first place where something happens is the park by Ponyboy’s house. Ponyboy and Johnny go to the park to cool off after an argument between Ponyboy and his brothers. The park has a lonely look to it with only a sand pit that they use in the Summertime for volleyball, and that’s why they like it, quiet and desolated. At around two-thirty in the morning while they are walking, they notice their rival gang the Soc’s car pull up by the cirb. Their first thought is to run because they knew they were going to get it for going to the movies with the leader of the Soc’s girlfriend. It’s too late. They grab Johnny and Ponyboy and throw them to the ground. While they are only slugging Johnny (who didn’t really interact with the Soc’s girlfriend), they were drowning Ponyboy in the fountain (who actually started to like the Soc’s girlfriend). Looks: Long and skinny, Brown hair, gray/green eyes, perky ears. Actions: Even though his actions may not be thought through very deeply, Ponyboy is always thinking about what is best for his family and what he can do to keep them out of harm's way. Even if it meant being in danger himself. Speech: The words that Ponyboy chooses to use in the book are not the best ones, but you can pick up very early in the book that he means well and wants to speak his mind, but just doesn't know how to put his feelings into words. Thoughts: From the point of view that this story is (third), it is hard to keep track of what his exact thought process is. With that said, his thoughts are a big mess, but as he speaks they usually, eventually, get out.
