World War II was one of the biggest and bloodiest fights in human history. All six major continents were involved, and over sixty million people lost their lives. The war redrew country borders in Europe and Asia almost into what it is today and forced ethnic groups to relocate. Europe’s Jewish population was practically wiped out from concentration camps, executions, and forced sterilizations. Two atomic bombs killed roughly around 200,000 people, most of which were citizens. Survivors would have to live with the thoughts of Japan massacring the Chinese in the streets, or the Nazi’s taking loved ones away, never to be seen again. Roosevelt wanted to create a successor to the failed League of Nations. He met with other countries during the war and drafted the United Nations Charter which was ratified by China, the Soviet Union, the United Kingdom, and France. Thus ultimately providing more diplomacy between countries, and a bigger voice to smaller nations. The war also helped make European colonialism end. Nations like India, Mexico, Nigeria, Brazil, and many more became independent because Europe didn’t have the resources necessary to sustain power in those lands after the war. Israel was also created as a result of the war, which is positive after what the Jewish people went through during the Holocaust. The final positive affect that World War II had on the country was that America took the crown as the greatest world power. Before the war, Great Britain was looked at as the wealthiest and most powerful nation. But it had been wounded badly. They were engaged early in the war against the Axis powers, and were running out of resources. The United States (with help from the Soviet Union) helped destroy the Nazi regime in Germany, and was the first country to build nuclear weapons, which ultimately destroyed two Japanese cities, and many believe made the Japanese surrender early, which helped end World War
