Majority of the people claim that interest groups are bad for American democracy, however, in my opinion, they play a vital role in shaping our socio-political environment and are also a key to a healthier democracy. Personally I think that interest groups help in a better representation of public interests by having connections with the government officials . These numerous direct links with legislators and party leaders helps them discuss the on- going issues and take steps accordingly. They also act as mediator between the public and the government which helps enhance the two way communication, transferring information from one side to the other. Through this lawmakers get a chance to analyse enough information and ideas of citizens and helps them look at topics with different perspectives that makes it easier for them to reach a suitable conclusion. Moreover, interest groups not only help organize public opinion but also let people express their opinions (increasing political participation) , especially the minority, who would otherwise be suppressed. For example, National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), a venue for political involvement which has made progress to promote social equality. I would also like to point out that interest groups are always well informed and so they can easily provide logical solutions to problems arising in the government’s sphere. Additionally, interest groups are also strong enough and in a way promote limited government. They take develop strong sense of every issue and keep a check on the government.
