In the essay it says “The people who run food banks report that most of their clients are minimum-wage workers who can't afford to eat on their salaries.” Sese most of the people do work they dont wanna seek help because of the stigma that comes with that. Some families are also denied food stamps, others don't know that they are able to get them. Although some people can get them like the essay said “The average length of a food stamp application is twelve often impenetrable pages; a permit to sell weapons is just two”. Why have something that everyone needs be harder to gain access of over guns which aren't needed.
The Cycle of Poverty The concept of living paycheck to paycheck is easy to grasp, seeming to have infinite solutions; however, all the while, 60% of United States adults cannot solve this “easy” problem (“Today’s Paycheck”). The solution to this extremely common economic problem doesn’t take into account people’s real lives; it doesn’t take into account the type of environment someone grew up in or even take into account emergencies that families frequently face. Mr. Singer is widely regarded for his cut and dry philosophy and his direct approach to literature which is clearly displayed in this work. While regulations exist in the United States society to determine who needs food stamps and when those families need them, the abuse of this federal program still occurs. Assistance to needy families is crucial and normally temporary with the exceptions of those who use the program as a way of life. All 50 states have many different variations of regulations for food stamps. In Oklahoma, the federal program for assistance for food is called SNAP.

Singer argues that all people with wealth surplus to their essential needs are morally obligated to prevent the suffering of those in dire situations. Peter Singer argues, in “Rich and Poor” that it is out obligation morally to help people that are in extreme poverty. This is what I believe the three main topics to be. The first is that we owe it to the people in need to prevent something bad if we do not have to sacrifice anything of significance. The second thing he really talks about is absolute poverty, and absolute effluence. The second topic is very simply put, absolute poverty is bad.
I am not saying we should get rid of food stamps. We should require able-bodied people without any dependents to work for Food Stamps. When this happened in Maine and Kansas the number of spending and people jurassicly decreased. Food Stamps is just another system that people can use to get something for free by scamming the system. In Walden, written by Henry David Thoreau, the author expresses the immense longing that we, as human beings, need to give up our connection to our ever-growing materialism in order to revert back to self-sufficient happiness. In Walden, the reader is able to infer that Thoreau feels as if we are becoming enslaved by our material possessions, as well as believes that the study of nature should replace and oppose our enslavement, and that we are to “open new channels of thought” by turning our eyes inward and studying ourselves. Thoreau feels that we are becoming enslaved by our material possessions. As stated in the chapter “In the Where I Lived, and What I Lived For”, Thoreau states that “I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived.” (972).
In communism, since the role of the individual does not come into play the issue of gun control would not come into play. Ownership for anything, including a gun, would have to be authorized and distributed through the government. In communist state, gun control would rely solely on the government. There would be no issue of “gun control” as the government has full control over who has guns and who does not. In contrast, an individual’s rights in capitalism supersedes all other factors.
Robert Chambers the author of Poverty in Focus was talking about the one of the disadvantages of poverty and the effects that it causes for example lack of education and social relations One of the statements he was talking about that I found interesting was when he stated “Poverty can happen when incomes are deprived and resources needed to keep society intact and without those resources then society will breakdown from a good neighborhood to a dangerous one.”
