In Walden Thoreau establishes that “if you give money spend yourself with it and do not merely abandon it to them.” Our efforts to relieve poverty cause damage instead of help. Charity benefits cause a reliance on free donations and prevent people from working to obtain the items they hold. Therefore our charity efforts to relieve poverty do not help the poor.
Failed efforts to relieve poverty begins with the reliance on government assistance. Food stamps and WIC stamps originated with the purpose of providing temporary assistance to those experiencing rough times. Once you found a job and had a steady income, the food stamps and WIC stamps should not apply to you. A majority of society abuses the system and refuse to find a higher paying job
