Today, Canada is seen as a multicultural and peaceful nation that has evolved over the course of history. This great nation would never have been possible without the impact that former Prime Minister, Lester B. Pearson left on this country. His achievements and insights profoundly affected and shaped Canada’s nation. First, peacekeeping is an important part of Canada’s heritage and a reflection of its fundamental beliefs that Pearson implemented after dealing with world changing situations and winning a Nobel Prize. Also, his contributions as a liberal leader as well as the flaws and controversy with Diefenbaker did in fact define this country.
The founding fathers of Canada when they put down the agreement of the Confederation did not envisage many cases such as the power of controlling the water sources. There are many differences over the ruling power between the federal government and the provinces, which makes the role of the queen critical in ruling between them (Salter & Hebert, 2014). The second role of the Queen in Canada is leading the crown institutions whose job does not depend on the parties at power, the RCMP, and the Central Bank of Canada are examples of these institutions that are supervised by the Queen and their leaders are nominated by
Joe Smallwood had led the campaign for Confederation for Newfoundland. He became the first premier of the tenth province. The decision to join had not been an easy one for Newfoundlanders. It came after several years of debate on their political future.
The only elected position in the government was the Legislative Assembly. The other government positions were appointed by the governor. The Governor appointed the Lieutenant Governor's, one was in charge of Upper Canada, One was in charge of Lower Canada. They appointed the Legislative Council and the Executive Council. Eventually, responsible government was granted to Canada, first in Nova Scotia in January 1838, then, later in all of

Justin trudeaus reforms call to make the public trustworthy of this institution; resolving some of this issues above. This paper will begin will an analysis of the powers of the senate The senate is long lived insition in Canada that functions as part of parliament notably along with
Under the executive branch, the Prime Minister and his Cabinet meet regularly to discuss and talk about topics like government spending, new ideas for bills and new policies. Most of the Cabinet Ministers are Members of Parliament and always have one representative from the Senate. Each Minister is in charge of a government department and the Cabinet Ministers must report their activities to Parliament. They are obligated to do so and are answerable to the Parliament. The Ministers share responsibility for administration, or management, of government and must support a Cabinet decision.
Canada has two legislative bodies in the parliamentary system, one is the Senate of Canada which is constituted by the appointed members. Secondly, is the House of Commons, which is made up of elected officials. The Senate is consisted of 105 members that are recommended by the Prime Minister and the appointed by the Governor General. The members of the Senate can be made up of business people, lawyers, doctors, hockey players, and many more, because of the variety of experience from the individuals of senators gives a better understanding of the people they represent and of the problems that Parliament must try to solve.
The level of centralization in the Canadian federation has greatly fluctuated since its formation in 1867 with the enactment of the British North America Act (*). At its beginning, the level of centralization and the amount of power in the hands of the federal government raised questions on whether or not Canada could even be considered a federation (*). Over time, a tendency towards decentralization emerged and changes to the application of the Constitution lead to more powers being shared across the provincial governments (*). Nowadays, it is widely believed that the Canadian federation is one of the most decentralized federations in the world. In our world each country has a particular balance of powers between its national government and it local governments. There are two different types of government discussed in our book, the first is unitary government and the second is federal government. A Unitary government is when political power is concentrated at the national level. This can also be called a centralized government. A federal government is when the power is shared with the subunits.
The Parliament consists of the Queen, who is represented by the Governor-General, the Senate, and the House of Representatives. These three elements consist of five important functions of the parliament which are; to provide for the formation of a
I think we should be concerned about the low voter turnout, if we weren’t a democratic nation, it wouldn’t be as much of a concern, but speaking from the perspective of Canada - a democratic nation, the big concern is having a majority government being giving unquestionable power only because the won about 60% of Canada’s approval and support. That 40% could have put a different party into power, one that has more of the country’s approval. Currently voting seems to follow the “lesser evil principle”, in a democratic nation, when voting, the voter should walk away with the thought that they voted for someone who they thought deserved to lead, not dropping their own values and voting in hope that a party that isn’t as bad as the conservatives
Introduction In my portfolio project I choose obesity as it is a largest problem in America and in the globe and the rate is rising in developing and mostly in developed countries. Obesity is a term that describe the condition of the health with excess fat or adipose tissue in the body. The obesity is calculated with using a tool called (BMI) body mass index and is classified as having BMI of 30 or over in adult while at or above the 95th percentile in child. (BMI) estimate a fat present in the body of a person taking height and weight into the consideration.
The Prime Minister is elected by the majority vote in the House of Commons of Canada. Once elected, the length one will serve at is Her Majesty’s Pleasure. This means that he/she will serve for an indeterminate amount of time. They term is only ended by the Prime Minster resigning, is dismissed or dies. A change in the Prime Minister usually occurs when an opposing party wins the majority of seats in the House of Commons.
The Westminster system of government comprises of a democratically elected lower house. After the executive members the head of government is the prime minister. The next system that falls in place is the opposition which is led by the leader of the party or the parties with the second largest number of seats in the lower house. It follows that in the British system the prime minister and the cabinets are fully in charge of Parliament.
Secondly, the parliamentary executives, the cabinet minister and the Prime Minister, share responsibilities. Therefore, the parliament is “jointly responsible for the actions of the government…primus inter pares (first among equals)”. (Haywood, 2007, p. 95) Lastly, a typical feature of the parliamentary system is that the offices of the Head of State and the Head of the Government remain separate from each other. Union is a key feature of the parliamentary governments worldwide.
