Healthcare is an ever-evolving continuum consisted of many changes that occur in a day-to-day basis. The need of continuing education is necessary for us to advance our skills and knowledge as nurses caring for the general population. However, advanced knowledge that goes beyond the science of nursing is crucial to excel in the field. Excellence in nursing requires us to be politically active and informed of the constant changes that occur within the health care system. It is also important to be aware of the accessible resources and organizations to be able to seek the proper resources needed. This is usually done by providing higher-level training and enhanced staff recruitment. This impacts nursing practice by serving as an inspiration and a challenge for nurses to improve their overall performance and improve on their risk management abilities. The organization play a role in research through gathering collected information on what have worked or what have not worked in the past and revising the error. TJC is a huge contributing factor in nursing excellence as it takes on an advocacy role to the patients. According to Mason, Gardner, Outlaw, & O’Grady (2016), professional advocacy focuses on issues that can possibly compromise patient safety. Ultimately, TJC advocates for an effective, safe, and high quality patient care and this is why I would support such organization. Based on my own personal experience working for both a TJC and a non-TJC accredited facility, I can honestly say that there is a significant difference in the organization’s overall performance. This organization greatly impacts nursing practice because it is through this organization that nurse excellence and nurse leaders are created. Moreover, the organization plays a significant role in nursing research as they are constantly conducting research and studies toward improving quality of patient care. AACN serves as advocates for nurses in ensuring that they are ready and well equipped through their skills and knowledge to care for the general population. AACN continuously finds ways to improve nursing competency through ways like ensuring nurses are knowledgeable of health policy (Arabi, Rafii, Cheraghi, & Ghiyasvandian, 2014). As a nurse, it would strongly support this organization as they help innovate the future not just for nurses but also for the entre healthcare field.
