Objective One During my clinical day three, I demonstrated entry-level competence in professional nursing practice in caring for patients with multiple and/or complex unmet human needs. I addressed safety needs, safety in medication administration, effective communication, and surveillance for my patients. First, I addressed safety needs my ensuring the appropriate safety measures were implemented for the patients. Some of the safety measures included, wearing non-skid socks, wearing a yellow armband which indicated fall risk, keeping the bed in lowest position, two side rails up, bed locked, and the call light within reach.
Although as far as human error is concerned, initially the clerk was not at the desk, and then assumed the nurse's name which resulted in delay in attending to Claudia's call and subsequent injury to her body. 2. Advanced Practice Competencies There are many roles and areas of practice available to graduates with a master’s degree in nursing. Changes in healthcare resulting from the passage of the Affordable Care Act offer new and innovative roles for nurses. Among these roles are direct care practice roles as a Nurse Practitioner (NP) in family care, gerontology or adult health. Indirect care roles as a Nurse Educator, Nurse Administrator, or Nurse Informaticist are also options graduates of master’s program may choose. Regardless of the path chosen, there are core competencies that must be met for each, in addition to specific competencies related to the area of practice chosen.
The Nurse of the Future Nursing Core Competencies include ten areas of expertise: Patient - centered care, professionalism, informatics and technology, evidence - based practice, leadership, systems - based practice, safety, communication, teamwork and collaboration , and quality improvment. After a lot of research, these competencies were selected based on how we can transition from our current practice and education standards to our future practices. When my son was in pre k, I worked as a volunteer I read the book for children, and I helped them with a field trips. I have some hands-on activity ideas. Monday October 26th: Today at Moses Cone hospital, I was in the role of student nurse. I had two patients; one a returning patient, and the other a new patient. The nurse I was working with is someone I have never worked with before or even seen on the floor, but she seemed to be familiar with the unit. It was about 3-5-45 minutes into the shift before we received hand off report. After about 8 minutes of waiting to get report on the rest of her patients, my nurse went ahead and started to see patients.

As an MA you should always be respectful and helpful to the patient. There are different ways that you can correct this miscommunication. You could see if there is an open spot the you could fit the patient into. You could also confirm the date and time that the patient is supposed to be there and sincerely apologize for the miscommunication. Even if the patient comes in on the wrong day and is very angry, you should still remain calm and helpful.

Mrs. Aponte Santiago does not has a certification, but the nurses have the opportunity to obtained one of them in the following areas of interest: emergency room (ER), oncology, renal, phlebotomy, epidemiology, progressive care, and others. Some of the specialist certifications includes: gerontology, pediatric and neonatal. In addition, the subspecialty certifications in acute/critical care are also available (i.e. cardiac medicine and cardiac surgery). There is not an special certification given within the profession, but there are a lot of options available. The certification provide additional knowledge, it is a measure of competency and prepare the nurse to execute an extraordinary job in a specific area of nursing.

Introduction Professionalism and ethics have been in play for a much longer time in healthcare than in any other industry. Runciman and Walton (2007) critically state that when patients come into a healthcare institution, they enter a unique social relationship. In essence they feel completely vulnerable and care should be taken to ensure that they are more confident within the relationship. Description: This situation occurred during the second placement of the diploma of nursing, which was in the rehabilitation centre in the psycho and podiatric ward. For me the most important and good experience that I had on this placement was the day when I got appreciation from the nurse in charge and the manager of that ward. I was working with my buddy nurse and suddenly in the morning when the ward is busy there was a MER call in the next ward so the nurses were supposed to go there to help them in that ward with the emergency. In that mean time there was the only the nurse in charge of our ward, we( 2 students), one nurse in the other part of the ward where the mentally retarded patient were living which can harm others sometimes or who eagerly wants to go out of the hospital. That ward is usually locked and they sometimes open the ward for the patients to move around under supervision.
