Professional Identity and Stewardship - Part II: Leadership Interview
The author had the pleasure to interview a nurse leader in my institution. Purity Wilberforce has been a nurse in our institution for the last five years. She currently works as a float pool nurse and acts as charge nurse too. Purity is outgoing, vibrant and very easy to approach which makes her mingle quite well with the various team she interacts with. She is also very firm on health providers to practice as per expectations. During my orientation as a new staff in the institution, it was not had to note her passion while offering care, her effort to see that the patient improve and that they were comfortable.

After a short pause, Purity said that she is a registered nurse with a main responsibility of providing required care to her allocated patients. On top of this role she acts as a charge nurse on some of the shift where she has roles such as care coordination which involves allocation patients to nurses and nurse assistants, ensure there is enough supply items required for use, placing orders for items required in the central supply, mentorship for new nurses and team support, and making decisions on any other arising issue that requires her attention.
