Professional Reflection

Before beginning this unit, I did not have a strong sense of how putting together a unit works. Questions that ran through my mind would relate to how long it takes, how do I figure out what standards to teach and when, and how can I tie everything together, to make it all make sense for children.

Throughout my time completing this unit, I feel I have developed a stronger understanding of what it takes to put a unit together to truly create a great learning experience for students. During the creation of my unit, I have learned how I can always integrate other ideas and curricular strategies into my lessons. I have discovered how there is almost always a way to relate what students are learning about, to other subjects. I understand that doing this, integrating other ideas, is extremely beneficial for student learning. I have learned how integrating other subjects and ideas into a lesson can create a more meaningful and relevant learning experience for children. Within curricular integration, students are making connections between subjects and therefore opening a greater understanding of subjects and are more likely to become critical thinkers. …show more content…

Throughout the lessons I have created for this unit, I have allowed many opportunities for students to collaborate with one another about their learning. Students are working together, to create a learning experience with peers. Before this unit, I had not thought much about community involvement within units or individual lessons. Within my unit, I have created an opportunity for students to get out into the community during a field trip, to learn more about our unit theme. I feel this makes learning more realistic for children, because they have something in real life to relate what they have learned to. I feel this promotes growth within student
